Bitmain announced two hydro miners at its Hong Kong summit this year, and this is the one built to set a new efficiency record. If you searched for the S23 XP Hyd, you probably want to know six things: the full specs, the price, the ship date, how it compares with the S23 Hyd you can buy today, what it can mine, and what it needs to run. This guide answers each one with numbers you can check, and explains the ideas behind them so the numbers make sense.

What are the Antminer S23 XP Hyd specs?
The S23 XP Hyd is a SHA-256 Bitcoin miner cooled by liquid flowing through cold plates, not by fans. It mines Bitcoin and the other SHA-256 coins (Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV). Here is the full spec sheet, with a plain-English note on what each line means for you.

Why is 8.9 J/TH a big deal?
J/TH is a Bitcoin miner's fuel economy. It tells you how many joules of electricity the machine burns for each terahash of work. Because electricity is the biggest running cost in mining, J/TH decides how long a miner stays useful.
The S23 XP Hyd is the latest step in a ten-year slide. Bitmain's famous Antminer S9 of 2016 needed about 98 J/TH. The S23 XP Hyd needs 8.9 J/TH, about 91% less electricity for the same work. Put another way: one kilowatt-hour now does more than ten times the mining it did in 2016.
Ten years of Antminer efficiency

The numbers behind the chart
| Antminer | Launch year | J/TH | Power for 1 PH/s per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| S9 | 2016 | 98 | 2,352 kWh |
| S17 Pro | 2019 | 39.5 | 948 kWh |
| S19 Pro | 2020 | 29.5 | 708 kWh |
| S19 XP | 2022 | 21.5 | 516 kWh |
| S21 | 2023 | 17.5 | 420 kWh |
| S21 XP | 2024 | 13.5 | 324 kWh |
| S23 Hyd | 2025 | 9.5 | 228 kWh |
| S23 XP Hyd | 2026 | 8.9 | 214 kWh |
Power for 1 PH/s per day = J/TH x 24. A petahash (PH/s) is 1,000 TH/s.
When was the S23 XP Hyd released, and when does it ship?
Two dates get mixed up online, so here they are separately. Bitmain launched the S23 XP Hyd and opened sales on 28 August 2026, on day two of the World Digital Mining Summit (WDMS) in Hong Kong. The first machines ship from November 2026. So it was announced in August and delivered from November. Some listings say it "launched in November"; that is the ship date, not the launch date.

Prefer not to pay it all at once? OneMiners Pay Later splits a Bitcoin miner into four payments while it mines.
Notice the pattern: the newest, most efficient machines cost the most per TH. You pay more up front for a lower power bill later. Whether that trade is worth it depends on your electricity price, which we work out below and in our hydro miner comparison.
S23 XP Hyd vs S23 Hyd vs S21 XP Hyd: what changed?
The S23 XP Hyd adds 20 TH/s over the Antminer S23 Hyd (580 TH/s) and uses 170 W less power (5,340 W against 5,510 W). That moves efficiency from 9.5 to 8.9 J/TH, about 6% better. Electricity to run 1 PH/s for a day
kWh per petahash per day (lower is better)
J/TH x 24. The same 1 PH/s of hashrate costs 26% less power on the S23 XP Hyd than on the S21 XP Hyd.
How much electricity does the S23 XP Hyd use?
It draws 5,340 W around the clock. That is 128.2 kWh a day, about 3,898 kWh a month and 46,778 kWh a year.
One Antminer S23 XP Hyd uses as much electricity as about 4.5 US homes
3,898 kWh a month vs 865 kWh for an average US home
Each house = one average US household (EIA, 2024: 865 kWh a month). Miner runs 24/7, 730 hours a month.
For more on how miners turn watts into a bill, see how much electricity a Bitcoin miner uses.
How does hydro cooling work?
Air-cooled miners blow huge volumes of air across their chips with loud fans. A hydro miner replaces the fans with cold plates: metal blocks with channels inside, pressed against the chips. Coolant flows through them, picks up the heat and carries it to a coolant distribution unit (CDU), which passes it to an outdoor dry cooler or cooling tower. The cooled liquid comes back and the loop repeats.
How hydro cooling works
Coolant carries the heat out of the Bitcoin miner in a closed loop. No fans, far less noise.
Quieter. No high-speed fans, so a hydro hall is far quieter than an air-cooled one.
Denser. Liquid moves heat far better than air, so more hashrate fits in the same floor space.
Steadier chips. Stable coolant temperatures keep the chips in their sweet spot, which helps efficiency.
Heat you can reuse. The warm water can heat buildings or greenhouses instead of being blown into the sky.

How much can the S23 XP Hyd mine per day?
A miner's daily revenue is simple: hashrate x hashprice. Hashprice is what each terahash earns per day, and it moves with the Bitcoin price, transaction fees and the total hashrate of the network.
600 TH/s x $0.0359 per TH per day
= $21.55 a day before pool fees

Network numbers from mempool.space, 22 October 2026: Bitcoin at $81,962, network hashrate about 1,033 EH/s, so each TH/s earned about 3.59 cents a day (hashprice $35.92 per PH/s per day) before pool fees. Electricity prices are examples, not quotes.
Want to see it at your own electricity price? Plug the S23 XP Hyd into the OneMiners profitability calculator and compare it with any other Bitcoin miner.
The more you pay for electricity, the less is left. Every Bitcoin miner has a point where its power bill eats everything it mines. We call that its breakeven power price. The higher it is, the safer the miner is when electricity gets expensive or hashprice falls.
How expensive can electricity get?
The power price at which each Bitcoin miner's electricity bill equals what it mines. Longer bar = safer.
At 22 October 2026 network numbers. Changes with the Bitcoin price and network hashrate.
The S23 XP Hyd keeps covering its power bill up to about 16.8 cents per kWh, the highest of any Antminer. So if electricity gets pricier, it is the last one to switch off.
Hashprice / (J/TH x 24 / 1,000)
= 0.0359 / (8.9 x 0.024)
= 16.8 cents per kWh
The S23 Hyd breaks even at 15.8 cents and the S21 XP Hyd at 12.5 cents, at today's network numbers.
For breakeven prices across every model we sell, see our breakeven electricity rate by miner guide.
Can you mine a whole Bitcoin block with one S23 XP Hyd?
In theory, yes. In practice, almost never. The network ran at about 1,033 EH/s on 22 October 2026, which is over 1.7 million times the S23 XP Hyd's 600 TH/s. Mining alone, one machine would find a block on average once every 33 years.
That is why miners join a pool. The pool combines thousands of machines, finds blocks every day and splits the reward by hashrate, so your S23 XP Hyd earns its small, steady share daily instead of waiting decades for a jackpot. Our hashrate explainer covers the maths.
What do you need to run an S23 XP Hyd?
This is an industrial machine. It is not built for a home or a garage. Before you buy, check that you can supply all of these:
Three-phase power at 380 to 415 V
A normal household socket cannot run it. You need an industrial supply and the right connector.
At OneMiners: Our hydro halls are wired for three-phase hydro miners.
A liquid cooling loop
Coolant must flow at 8 to 10 litres a minute at up to 3.5 bar, through a CDU and a dry cooler or cooling tower.
At OneMiners: Houston (45 MW) and the UAE (34 MW) run air- and hydro-cooled miners.
Clean coolant
Antifreeze, pure water or deionized water, kept inside the pH range on the spec sheet.
At OneMiners: Coolant quality is checked on site.
Someone on call
About 5.3 kW of load around the clock. A failed pump or hose needs a fast fix.
At OneMiners: On-site staff and app monitoring.

That is why most S23 XP Hyd buyers host. See all OneMiners hosting centers for current rates.
Is the S23 XP Hyd worth buying?
It depends on your power price and how soon you want to mine. The honest comparison is with the Antminer S23 Hyd, which is in stock now.
Buy the S23 XP Hyd if you want the most efficient Antminer for the next few years, pay higher electricity prices, or want headroom if hashprice falls. Its breakeven power price (16.8 cents) is the highest in the Antminer range.
Buy the S23 Hyd if you want to start mining this month. It costs less per TH ($21.21 against $24.66) and every week of waiting for November is a week not mined.
Look at the Antminer S23e U2H if you run, or host in, a rack-based hydro hall and want the lowest price per TH ($11.01). Full details in our S23e U2H guide.

We list the S23 XP Hyd November batch at $14,799, below Bitmain's launch list, and we host hydro miners in Houston and the UAE. If you want this machine, confirm your batch month in writing before you pay, and plan the hosting at the same time so it starts hashing the week it lands.
