A better-than-expected week-opener: China's economy grew faster than forecast, oil eased, and risk assets from Tokyo to Bitcoin turned green. Here is the Monday brief, with the numbers miners should care about.
By Michal Beno, CEO, OneMiners19 October 2026
Bitcoin started the week near $82,760, up about 1.4% in 24 hours. The spark came from Beijing: China's economy grew 4.5% year on year in the third quarter, faster than the 4.3% of the second, and retail sales beat forecasts. Asian stocks bounced, Nasdaq futures gained more than 1%, and oil slipped. For Bitcoin miners, a firmer price on top of a network that is set to get slightly easier is a good way to start the week.

What moved
Last week ended badly for tech. AI-related shares dragged markets in Tokyo and Seoul lower, and volatility spiked on Friday. Monday reversed much of that. Japan's Nikkei rose 1.8%, South Korea's Kospi gained 0.6%, Chinese stocks added 0.3%, and Nasdaq futures climbed more than 1% before the US open.
Bitcoin moved with them. It traded around $83,000 in early European hours, up about 1% since midnight UTC. Gold sat still near $4,180 an ounce, and the US Dollar Index stayed below 102, close to Friday's lows.

Why it moved
China surprised to the upside. The National Bureau of Statistics said GDP grew 4.5% in the third quarter. Retail sales rose 1.1%, against the 0.5% economists expected and 0.4% a month earlier. China is the world's factory and its second-largest economy, so a stronger China tends to lift appetite for risk everywhere.
Oil eased. Prices fell in the US and Europe, giving back part of last week's gains. Reuters linked the drop to expectations that President Donald Trump's Russia waiver would add supply. Cheaper oil cools inflation fears, and that matters for the next point.
The Fed is on hold. After last month's 25 basis point hike, traders on the CME FedWatch tool expect the Federal Reserve to keep its rate at 4.75% to 5% this month. If oil keeps falling, talk of cuts later could come back, which has historically been friendly to Bitcoin.
What it means for Bitcoin miners
For miners, the price is only half of the story. The other half is difficulty, which sets how many coins each machine earns. Difficulty is now 140.6T, and mempool.space estimates the next adjustment, due around 30 October, at about -1.9%. A small drop means every machine earns a little more Bitcoin for the same work.
Put the two together and hashprice, the revenue one PH/s earns in a day, sits near $37.0. On those numbers an Antminer S23 Hyd 580T brings in about $21.47 a day, and nets about $15.12 after power at 4.8 cents per kWh. The same machine on a 13 cent home tariff would net about $4.27. That gap is why the power price, not the Bitcoin price, decides who is still mining next year.

What to watch this week
Oil and the dollar. A weaker dollar and cheaper oil have been a good mix for Bitcoin. A reversal would be the first warning sign.
AI and tech stocks. Last week's sell-off started there. If Nasdaq holds Monday's gains, Bitcoin has a calmer backdrop.
The 30 October difficulty adjustment. The estimate moves every day; a bigger drop would lift miner revenue further.
Fed commentary. Any hint of cuts would likely be read as positive for risk assets, Bitcoin included.
Days like this are a reminder that Bitcoin's price is set by the world, but a miner's margin is set by the power bill. OneMiners hosting starts from $0.048 per kWh, and from $0.0364 per kWh on a 7-year prepaid contract, so a macro-driven rally goes mostly to the miner, not the utility. Fixed, low power is the one part of the equation a miner can lock in today.
Frequently asked questions
Why did Bitcoin go up on 19 October 2026?
Risk assets rallied after China reported 4.5% Q3 GDP growth and stronger retail sales, while oil prices fell. Bitcoin rose about 1.4% in 24 hours to near $83,000.
What is hashprice?
The revenue one PH/s of mining power earns per day. It combines Bitcoin's price with network difficulty. Today it is about $37 per PH/s per day.
When is the next Bitcoin difficulty adjustment?
Around 30 October 2026 at block 973,728. mempool.space currently estimates a change of about -1.9%.
Does the Fed rate decision affect Bitcoin mining?
Indirectly. Rates move the Bitcoin price and the cost of financing machines. The power price matters more to a miner's daily margin.
Let the market set the price. Lock in your power cost.
