🚀 In 2010, one anonymous miner built a machine shed that is estimated to have run 20–30% of the entire Bitcoin network. Nobody knows who he was. Nobody ever did.
The community called him ArtForz. While almost everyone else was still mining on a laptop CPU, he wrote his own code, wired together a rack of graphics cards, and turned Bitcoin mining into an industry of one. He reported generating around 1,700 BTC in a single six-day stretch in July 2010, and roughly 26,650 BTC across nine weeks that autumn. He also created Tenebrix, the first coin built on the scrypt algorithm — the direct ancestor of Litecoin. Then he stepped back into the anonymity he came from, and stayed there.

Mining Tales — the OneMiners series on the stories that shaped Bitcoin.
💡 The reason that concentration never happened again is that mining spread out — across operators, countries and power grids. OneMiners is part of that spread: 20 facilities on five continents, thousands of individual owners, each holding their own hardware in their own name.

One shed of graphics cards, and a network that nearly had a single owner.
