How many miners fit, 20ft or 40ft, air or hydro, and how much power you need. Answered with five real containers.
By Michal Beno, CEO, OneMiners5 November 2026
A 20ft mining container usually holds about 160 to 170 air-cooled Bitcoin miners. A 40ft hydro container like the Bitmain Antspace HW5 holds 210 hydro miners on 1,200 kW. Pick the size by how much power you have, not by how many boxes you want. OneMiners sells five containers today, from $25,118 to $84,000.
Our mining containers page is one of the most visited pages on oneminers.com, and the questions are always the same. How many miners fit? 20ft or 40ft? Air or hydro? How much power do I need? This guide answers each one with real products and real numbers.

What is a Bitcoin mining container?
A mining container is a shipping container turned into a small data centre. Inside are racks, power distribution, network gear and a cooling system. You put it next to a power source, connect it, load the Bitcoin miners and switch on. Containers are popular because they are fast to deploy, easy to move and easy to scale: when you want more capacity, you add another box.
Step one: start with power, not size
The most common beginner mistake is to pick a container by its size. The real limit is power. Every miner draws a fixed number of watts, and the container can only deliver so many kilowatts. Divide one by the other and you know how many miners it can run.
Miners = container power (kW) × 1,000 ÷ miner watts
Power you need = number of miners × miner watts ÷ 1,000
Leave some headroom. Real deployments keep a margin for fans, pumps, network gear and safety.
Antspace HW5 filled with Antminer S21 XP Hyd
The answer, 211, matches the 210 slots Bitmain designed the HW5 for. The container and the miner were made for each other.
20ft container with 168 Antminer S21 Pros
Before you buy a 20ft air container, make sure your site can deliver roughly 617 kW, around the clock.
20ft vs 40ft
Which size fits your site
| 20ft container | 40ft container | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical capacity | 160-170 air miners, or about 300-500 kW | 200+ hydro miners, 1 MW and up |
| Best for | First sites, smaller power connections | Large sites with a big, stable supply |
| Transport | Easier to move and place | Needs more space and heavier lifting |
| Example in our shop | OneMiners 20FT for 168 miners | Bitmain Antspace HW5 (210 hydro) |

Air vs hydro vs immersion
Cooling decides which miners you can run, how dense you can pack them, and how hot or cold your site can be.
Air cooling uses fans and airflow, sometimes with a water curtain. It is the simplest and cheapest, works with standard air miners, but is noisier and sensitive to dust and heat.
Hydro cooling pumps liquid through cold plates in each miner. It is quieter, packs far more power per box and suits the newest high-power models such as the S23 Hyd. The HW5 pairs this with a dry-wet cooling tower and a PUE near 1.0, meaning almost all the power goes into mining.
Immersion cooling sinks miners in a special fluid. It runs very cool and quiet, but needs immersion-ready miners and more set-up.

The box is the small part of the bill
A container is a big purchase, but it is usually the smallest part of a mining project. Fill an HW5 with 210 Antminer S21 XP Hyds at today's price and the miners cost $1,301,790. The container is only about 6% of the hardware bill.
Then comes electricity. A 1,200 kW container running all year uses about 10.5 million kWh. At 9.5 cents (our Czechia pay-as-you-go rate) versus 3.6 cents (Nigeria, 7-year prepaid), the difference alone is about $620,208 a year.

That is why the smartest container decision is often where it runs. You can set up a container at your own site, or ask OneMiners about hosting it at one of our locations.
Your container checklist
Five steps
Confirm your power
How many kW can your site supply, 24/7? This sets everything else.
Choose your miners
Air miners for an air container, hydro miners for a hydro container.
Do the maths
Container kW × 1,000 ÷ miner watts = how many miners fit. Leave headroom.
Check the climate
Hot and dusty sites favour hydro or immersion; cold sites may need recirculation, like the Power Mining ASIC-162.
Price the electricity
Over a container's life, power costs far more than the box. Compare sites before you choose.
kW / MW
Kilowatt / megawatt. 1 MW = 1,000 kW. A container's power rating is its most important number.
PUE
Power usage effectiveness: total power divided by mining power. 1.0 is perfect; the HW5 is near 1.0.
Hydro miner
A Bitcoin miner cooled by liquid through cold plates instead of fans.
Slots
How many miners a container is built to hold.
We sell containers from five makers and we run hosting sites with some of the lowest power prices we know of. So we will tell you honestly: the box matters, but the electricity matters more.
Quick questions
How many Bitcoin miners fit in a 20ft container?
Usually about 160-170 air miners. The OneMiners 20FT container holds 168; the Power Mining ASIC-162 holds 162.
How many fit in a 40ft container?
The Bitmain Antspace HW5 holds 210 hydro miners on 1,200 kW.
How much does a mining container cost?
In our shop, from $25,118 to $84,000 today, before miners.
Is hydro better than air?
Hydro packs more power per box and runs quieter, but needs hydro miners. Air is simpler and cheaper to start.
Can OneMiners host my container?
