What Is a 7-Year Fixed Electricity Rate? Bitcoin Mining Power Costs, Explained Simply

Fixed rateMining guide7 min read

Your Bitcoin miner's biggest cost is electricity. Here is how locking its price for seven years works — with real numbers.

The short answer

A 7-year fixed rate means you pay for your miner's electricity in advance for seven years and lock the price for the whole term. At OneMiners it is 30% cheaper than the normal pay-as-you-go rate — in Nigeria, 3.6 cents per kWh instead of 5.2 — and it cannot go up for seven years, whatever happens to energy prices.

If you have ever paid a power bill, you already understand most of Bitcoin mining. A Bitcoin miner is a computer that does one job, all day and all night, and it runs on electricity. The Bitcoin it earns depends on things nobody controls — the Bitcoin price and how many other miners are competing. The electricity it uses is the one big cost you can control. That is why the price you pay per kWh matters so much.

This guide explains, in plain words, what a 7-year fixed electricity rate is, how it works at OneMiners, and what it does to the numbers on a real Bitcoin miner. No maths degree needed — just a calculator, or not even that, because we did the sums for you.

01

First, what is a kWh?

Electricity is sold in kilowatt-hours (kWh). One kWh is the energy used by something that draws 1,000 watts for one hour. A Bitcoin miner's power is printed on its label in watts. The popular Antminer S21 Pro draws 3,675 watts, so every hour it uses 3.675 kWh.

The only formula you need

kWh per day = watts ÷ 1,000 × 24

Cost per day = kWh per day × price per kWh

Cost per year = cost per day × 365

For the Antminer S21 Pro: 3,675 ÷ 1,000 × 24 = 88.2 kWh a day, or about 32,193 kWh a year.

Now you can see why the price per kWh is everything. A Bitcoin miner uses a lot of energy, every single day, for years. Shave one cent off the price and you save one cent on every one of those tens of thousands of kWh.

The three ways to pay for power at OneMiners

When your Bitcoin miner runs in a OneMiners hosting centre, you choose how to pay for its electricity. There are two basic routes.

Pay as you go. You pay the normal hosting rate for the energy your miner actually uses. Billing is real-time, so you only pay while it is mining. In Nigeria that is 5.2 cents per kWh for miners bought on oneminers.com.

Prepaid. You buy the energy in advance for a fixed term and get a discount for committing. The longer the term, the bigger the discount. The rate is fixed for the whole term.

Plan Discount Nigeria rate Price fixed for
Pay as you go — 5.2c / kWh Not fixed
1-year prepaid 4% 4.9c / kWh 1 year
3-year prepaid 12% 4.5c / kWh 3 years
7-year prepaid 30% 3.6c / kWh 7 years

Rates as shown on oneminers.com site pages, 19 October 2026. Prepaid tiers are 4%, 12% and 30% off the online-ordered rate, shown rounded down to 0.1 cent.

The 7-year plan is the one OneMiners calls best value, and it is the headline rate you see on every hosting page. It matches another seven: every Bitcoin miner bought from OneMiners comes with a 7-year hardware warranty, so the price of power and the cover on the machine run for the same stretch of time.

03

A real example: one Antminer S21 Pro for seven years

Worked example

Antminer S21 Pro in Nigeria, running all day

Power use3,675 W = 88.2 kWh a day
Energy in 7 yearsabout 225,351 kWh
Pay as you go at 5.2c$11,718
7-year fixed at 3.6c$8,113
Difference$3,606

Same Bitcoin miner, same hosting centre, same work. Locking the rate for seven years keeps about $3,606 of electricity cost in your pocket — that is more than the $2,299 the Antminer S21 Pro itself costs today.

Seven years of electricity for one Antminer S21 Pro

Nigeria, US dollars, miner running 24/7

Pay as you go (5.2c)$11,718
1-year prepaid rate (4.9c)$11,042
3-year prepaid rate (4.5c)$10,141
7-year fixed (3.6c)$8,113

Each bar prices the same 7 years of energy at that plan's rate, so you can compare like with like. Rates as shown on oneminers.com site pages, 19 October 2026. Prepaid tiers are 4%, 12% and 30% off the online-ordered rate, shown rounded down to 0.1 cent.

Notice the pattern: each step up in commitment brings the bar down. The 7-year plan is the shortest bar by a wide margin, because 30% off is a very big discount on the single biggest running cost of mining.

04

What a fixed price protects you from

A discount is nice. A price that cannot rise for seven years can be worth even more, because electricity has been getting more expensive in many parts of the world.

In the United States, the average household price went from 13.15 cents per kWh in 2020 to a forecast 18.6 cents in 2027 — a rise of about 41% in seven years. In the UK the price cap went up again on 1 October 2026. Data centres, grid upgrades and gas prices are all pushing in the same direction. We explain why in our guide to rising electricity prices.

Hosting rates are not household rates, and OneMiners has not announced any increase. But the trend shows why a contract that freezes the price for seven years is valuable: whatever the world does, your miner's power costs the same in 2033 as it does today.

How prepaid energy works in your dashboard

Four steps

1

Pick your miners

Choose one Bitcoin miner or many. A prepaid plan can cover a whole fleet in one go.

2

Choose the term

1, 3 or 7 years. The 7-year term has the biggest discount: 30%.

3

Pay once

You pay for the energy up front. The rate is now fixed for the whole term.

4

Watch the balance

Each miner card in the OneMiners app shows the prepaid kWh left and the estimated days remaining. Your wallet shows usage, the remaining balance and a rate comparison.

Two tips. First, the prepaid balance is counted in kWh, so it only goes down when your miner uses power. Second, money in your Energy balance can also pay Pay Later installments on a Bitcoin miner — see how Pay Later works.

Words to know

kWh (kilowatt-hour)

The unit electricity is sold in: 1,000 watts for one hour.

Watts (W)

How much power a device draws. A Bitcoin miner's watts are on its label and product page.

J/TH (joules per terahash)

How efficient a miner is: how much energy it needs per unit of work. Lower is better. The Antminer S21 Pro is about 15.0 J/TH.

Online-ordered rate

The pay-as-you-go hosting rate for Bitcoin miners bought on oneminers.com. Miners you bring yourself pay the slightly higher external rate.

Prepaid tier

A term of 1, 3 or 7 years where you buy energy in advance at a fixed, discounted rate.

Uptime

The share of time your miner is running. OneMiners guarantees 95%+ and its sites average 98%+.

The OneMiners view

Bitcoin's price moves every minute. Network difficulty moves every two weeks. Your electricity price is the one big number in mining you can pin down — and with a 7-year fixed rate you pin it down for longer than almost anyone in the industry. That is not a gamble, it is planning.

06

Quick questions

Can the 7-year rate go up?

No. It is fixed for the full seven years. That is the whole point.

Do I pay everything at once?

Yes. Prepaid means you buy the energy in advance for the term you choose. Shorter 1-year and 3-year terms need a smaller payment.

Is 7-year prepaid available at every site?

Every OneMiners hosting page shows a 7-year prepaid rate, from 3.6 cents in Nigeria.

What if my miner breaks?

Bitcoin miners bought from OneMiners have a 7-year hardware warranty, and OneMiners handles maintenance on site.

Do I still keep my Bitcoin?

Yes. You own the miner and its payouts. The prepaid plan only changes how you pay for the electricity.

Informational only, not financial advice. Electricity rates and miner prices were read on oneminers.com on 19 October 2026 and can change; check the live site before you order. A 7-year prepaid plan is paid up front for the whole term. Examples assume a miner running 24 hours a day and are not a forecast. Bitcoin mining results depend on BTC price, network difficulty and electricity costs, which change. No return is offered or implied.
