Mining News | ONEMINERS NEWS DESK
The next halving is about 18 months out. That feels far away, but it is less than the life of the machine you buy today.

The countdown
The next Bitcoin halving happens at block 1,050,000. On 30 September 2026 the chain stood at block 969,300, so about 80,700 blocks remain. At ten minutes per block, that points to around April 2028. The block reward will drop from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC.

Every halving so far
Bitcoin block reward after each halving
BTC per block
A halving is the most predictable event in Bitcoin. The rule is written into the code: every 210,000 blocks, the new supply per block is cut in half. Nobody can speed it up or delay it, although faster or slower blocks shift the date by a few weeks.
What the halving does to a Bitcoin miner
Overnight, every machine earns roughly half as much Bitcoin. If price and difficulty stayed where they are today, hashprice would drop from about $40 to about $20 per PH per day. Fees soften that slightly, but not much: they are under 1% of the reward right now.
Break-even electricity price, today vs after the halving
| Bitcoin miner | Efficiency | Today | After halving |
|---|---|---|---|
Antminer S23 Hyd 580T |
9.5 J/TH | $0.175 | $0.088 |
Antminer S21 XP Hyd 473T |
12 J/TH | $0.139 | $0.070 |
Antminer S21 Pro 245T |
15 J/TH | $0.111 | $0.056 |
Antminer S19k Pro 110T |
23 J/TH | $0.072 | $0.036 |
Break-even = hashprice / (24 x J/TH). Assumes today's price and difficulty ($39.96 per PH per day) and fees at 0.8% of the reward.
The table shows the whole story. After the halving, an older S19k Pro only just breaks even at $0.036 per kWh, and loses money on most commercial power. A modern S23 Hyd still has room at about $0.088, which is well above OneMiners' published hosting rates.

Three things to do before 2028
Buy for the halving, not for today
A machine bought now spends most of its life after April 2028. Check the post-halving break-even first. The S23 series is built for it.
Lock your power rate
Electricity is 75 to 85% of the ongoing cost. A 7-year prepaid rate of $0.0364 per kWh covers the whole halving cycle.
Run the numbers both ways
Use the mining calculator at today's hashprice and at half of it. If both work, the machine is ready.
History also matters here. After each past halving, weaker miners switched off and difficulty eased, which gave the survivors a bigger share of every block. The miners who planned ahead were the ones still running to collect it.
THE ONEMINERS VIEW
The halving is the one date in Bitcoin that everybody knows in advance, and it still catches miners out every four years. Efficient hardware on cheap, fixed power is how you get through it. See every OneMiners rate on the hosting centers page.
